September 2003 ~ Technology Quarterly ~ p.45 " Improving your Website Visibility " by Tony Douglas
-Imagine a new store opening on the main road, now imagine you can find the front door to this shop. What type of business will it generate?
-Search engine placement is the key to finding and entering the door to your online site
-today nearly 30% of households now connect to the Internet through a high speed modem, up 50% from a year ago
-number one marketing tool used to locate a product or service on the Internet is a search engine
Few things to optimize your web presence:
1. Content: page content is king. Search engines look for a site that is content rich.
2. Meta Tags and Keywords: Today about 25% of sites use this tool to increase overall page rank. A good idea is to have your targeted keyword begin with a capital letter.
3. Keyword Density: For a page with 200 words, no more than 1% to 5% of these words should contain your targeted keyword. In designing your site, using three words for keyword phrase is usually sufficient, and you should not exceed this limit
4. Title Tags: These title tags are especially significant if the words in the title (keywords) are also found in the body of the text
5. Link Popularity: LP is the measure of how many other reputable websites are linking to your site
6. Hosting: you should host your website with an internet service provider that not host spammers or pornographers.
7. Paid inclusion: keyword bidding. Bid on certain keywords that are relative to your site, and then when a person types these keywords into a search query box, your site comes up number one if you are the top bidder.
